If you hope to be more organized this year or juggle a business and family at the same time, a digital planner can help you stay motivated.

But is a digital planner better than a traditional paper planner?

Here’s how digital planners differ from traditional paper planners if you’re confused.

What is a digital planner?

A digital planner is an electronic version of your traditional planner or calendar that is designed so you can use it on a digital device such as your tablet, smartphone, or your computer. Just like your paper planner digital planners comes with pre-designed templates and layouts for your tasks, to-do lists, and notes, and can be customized to suit your preferences.

A digital planner offers you several benefits over a traditional paper planner because you’re able to easily edit, and update information across all of your devices.

But it also helps you to organize your schedule and appointments, and keep track of your self-development journey, finances, and other personal goals.

This AnyMommyCanPlanners for example, is specifically designed for moms who are running a business and a family at the same time and it focuses on:

  • MEAL PLANNING (including your kid’s favorites)
  • BUDGETING – How to create a realistic family budget
  • WELLNESS (make time for yourself)
  • COLORING PAGES TO DESTRESS
  • DAILY PLANNING
  • WEEKLY PLANNING
  • TO-DO LISTS
  • GOALS
  • HABIT TRACKERS
  • SELF-DEVELOPMENT
  • SAVING CHALLENGES

and so much more!

The bottom line is that …

digital planners often come with various features that are not available in traditional paper planners, such as the ability to set reminders, share calendars with others, integrate with other digital tools, customize layouts with stickers or cute holiday stickers, or simply undo your notes.

For example

If you wanted to, you could clear the entire page and start all over, which you definitely can’t do with a traditional paper planner.

However, in order to open your digital mom planner you need to install an annotation app.

Check out the AnyMommyCanPlanner on Etsy.

What PDF Annotation Apps Work with the Digital Planner?

A digital planner usually comes in the format of a PDF which means you’ll need a note-taking or annotation app, to access your digital planner across your devices.

Most of my AnyMommyCanPlanner customers get their digital planner for their iPad but many also use it across their iPhones and desktops.

I also do have some Android customers as it works across most devices.

Depending on whether you’re using Apple or Android you’ll need a different app.

Some of the most popular annotation apps include:

iOS

  • GoodNotes
  • Notability
  • OneNote

Windows

  • Xodo

Android

  • Noteshelf

Now that you know what the best digital planner apps are you might be wondering what to use your digital mom planner for exactly.

Curious to see what most moms use it for?

Let’s take a look.

What do most moms use digital planners for?

As a mom, you can use a digital planner for a variety of reasons, depending on your needs and preferences. Here are some common uses of digital mom planners:

  1. Time management: Digital planners can help you schedule your crazy day, week, or month by setting reminders, creating to-do listsclearing lists, and shopping lists, and allocating time for specific tasks like homework, family time, meal prepping, or school activities.
  2. Goal setting: Digital planners can help you set and track your goals, whether they are personal or professional like saving goals or self-development goals. They can also provide you with motivation and accountability by reminding you of your progress and milestones.
  3. Journaling: Digital planners can serve as a digital notebook or daily journal, where users can jot down ideas, and thoughts, and practice gratitude which makes a digital planner a 2 in 1 solution. In GoodNotes, for example, you can also add images, audio, or video to your notes.
  4. Project management: Digital planners can be used to manage projects by assigning tasks, setting deadlines, and tracking progress. They can also facilitate collaboration by allowing multiple users to access and edit the same planner.
  5. Health and fitness tracking: Digital planners can help you track your exercise routines, diet, water intake, and other health-related goals like habit trackers. They can also provide sleep and mood trackers to help you improve your overall well-being.

Overall, digital planners offer a flexible and customizable way to stay organized, productive, and on top of one’s goals and responsibilities.

But,

should you use one?

Should I use a digital planner?

Whether or not you should use a digital planner ultimately depends on your personal preferences and needs. Here are some factors to consider:

  1. Accessibility: If you need to access your planner across multiple devices, a digital planner may be more convenient than a physical planner.
  2. Customization: Digital planners offer a range of templates and layouts that can be customized to fit your specific needs and preferences.
  3. Convenience: Digital planners often come with features like reminders and notifications, making it easier to stay on top of your schedule and tasks for yourself and your kids.
  4. Comfort: You might prefer the tactile experience of writing on paper, and may find it easier to use a physical planner.
  5. Screen time: If you spend a lot of time looking at screens throughout the day, you may want to limit your use of digital tools and opt for a physical planner instead.

Ultimately, the choice between a digital planner and a physical planner is a matter of personal preference. You may find that a combination of the two works best for you.

It’s important to experiment with different options to find the planner that works best for your needs and helps you stay organized and productive.

Now that you’ve decided that a digital mom planner is right for you the next question is, how do you get your digital planner onto your device?

How do I get my digital planner into GoodNotes?

If you’re using iOS (Apple) devices, I recommend you use your digital planner with the GoodNotes app.

GoodNotes is a popular note-taking app (for iOS and currently trialing for Windows) that allows you to annotate and organize your notes digitally. If you have a digital planner that you want to use in GoodNotes, here are the steps to import it:

  1. Save your digital planner as a PDF file. Most digital planners are saved in PDF format, but if yours is not, you will need to convert it to a PDF before importing it into GoodNotes.
  2. Open GoodNotes on your device and navigate to the notebook where you want to import your planner.
  3. Tap the plus sign (+) at the top of the screen to create a new page.
  4. From the options that appear, select “Import.”
  5. Choose the option to import a PDF file.
  6. Locate the PDF file of your digital planner and select it.
  7. GoodNotes will import the PDF and create a new page with your planner.
  8. You can now use GoodNotes’ annotation tools to write, draw, and add text to your planner.

Keep in mind that some digital planners may not be fully compatible with GoodNotes, especially if they have interactive features that rely on specific software or applications. However, most PDF-based planners should work well in GoodNotes with basic annotation tools.

That’s why all of AnyMommyCanPlanner digital planners have been tested with GoodNotes on which they work the best. You can check out my Etsy shop here.

How about you, have you considered using a digital planner or have you recently started using one? Would love to hear your opinion.
